‘ I have been tasked to monitor and measure our organisations   policies & procedures against disability & equality legislation   and it is a huge task? ’

Quality Manager

Observations

One of the major weaknesses identified in discrimination cases is that of policy & procedures within the organisation.

Disability is often overlooked when planning and strategy is considered and as a consequence policy, processes & procedures are putting the organisation at risk to discriminatory practice and makes you vulnerable to litigation.

Policy, processes & procedures need to have disability and equality considered as a core organisational imperative.

Considerations
  • Risk assess existing policy, processes & procedures
  • Put into place discrimination free policies, processes & procedures
  • Establish key legal imperatives from disability & equality law
  • Create tools that enable measurement & analysis
  • Create a Disability & Equality Action Plan that identifies where improvement needs to be made, who is responsible and how the action will be taken, and by when
  • Consult with and involve disabled people both internally and externally
